Current and Selected Works

“Stutter Redux” – Digital art based on an original acrylic on canvas.

The inspiration for my art comes from early influences that include:

• My great-uncle’s stained glass pieces.
• 1990’s comic book artists: Humberto Ramos, Chris Bachalo, Mike Mignola, Gary Frank, and Jeff Smith among others.
• Der Blaue Reiter members Franz Marc, August Macke, and Marianne von Werefkin.
• 1980’s and 1990’s graffiti and street artists.
• Muralists: Rivera, Orozco, Siqueiros

When I’m starting a painting, I do all of the regular steps: considering the focal point, the foreground, the background, and the palette.

Then I make it as bright as possible, often putting colors where they wouldn’t normally be (See “Painted Hills” above).

I finish by defining each color block with a black permanent marker or bold lines of black paint. This creates the stained glass effect I’m looking for.
