About

Terran Marks is a lifelong artist with a diverse collection of interests.

His artistic style is the result of having many artistic familiar members, the arts programs at Brown County schools, and growing up within 30 minutes of Indiana University’s many offerings.

He also gains inspiration from the Expressionist movement of the early 20th century, 1990’s comic book artists, and stained glass.

Since 2015 he has been a full-time blacksmith operating Brown County Forge. His specialties are creating custom home hardware and teaching beginners how to forge their first projects.

Outside of artistic endeavors, Terran is committed to community advocacy. He serves as a board trustee of the Brown County Community Foundation and advisory councilmember of the Lilly Scholars Network.

In addition, he reviews grant applications for both organizations and develops grant proposals for collaborative projects with local nonprofits. His two most recent projects are:

  • Funding Advanced EMT training for three firefighter/EMTs that serve with the Brown County Volunteer Fire Department.
    • This training expands the scope of care these volunteers can offer when they arrive at an emergency.
    • Brown County has no standing professional emergency services personnel. Each of the fire stations is volunteer-run so any boost to their capabilities helps them serve the county’s 15,000 residents and 2 million annual visitors.
  • Native Planting at the Carl Ziegler Wetlands and Education Center.
    • This project is a collaborative effort with Sycamore Land Trust and Indiana University’s Lilly Scholars Network Chapter to install over 1200 native plants, trees, and shrubs at their new education center.
    • The plants will help naturally manage water levels through bioswales.

Terran’s activities can be summed up with three interlocking concepts:

Community | Sustainability | Art
